Projects
SDF mainly focuses on the welfare of the people of SAARC region so that their quality of life can be improved. SDF also aims to accelerate economic growth, social progress and alleviate poverty in the SAARC region.
To support the above objectives the SDF Secretariat’s main activities are:
- Identify, study prospect and approve projects,
- Finance approved projects in the SAARC Member States,
- Leverage funding i.e. arranges and mobilizes financing and/or co-financing projects,
- Provide grants for projects of strategic importance to SAARC, and
- Provide financial and technical assistance, and
- Manage the Fund.
Projects under Social Window are given grants and technical assistance if they meet the following criteria:
- Projects involving all SAARC countries,
- Projects involving more than two but not all SAARC Member countries,
- Projects located in one or more SAARC countries, of significant economic interest for three or more SAARC countries, and
- Projects with significant focus on poverty alleviation, as envisaged under the social window, in any SAARC country having thematic linkage with more than two SAARC Member States as part of a sub-regional project.

- Promoting Integrated Bamboo Based Enterprise Development among SAARC Countries (Note-1)
- Networking and capacity building of women entrepreneurs (SMEs) from SAARC Countries
- Financing of Purchase of ATR 42 600 aircraft by Drukair Corporation Limited under Sovereign guarantee by Royal Government of Bhutan
